Alexander Stamatiadis (b. 1999) is a Greek-German director, screenwriter, and photographer whose work is rooted in autobiographical storytelling and explores questions of origin, identity, memory, and belonging. ¶
Working across film, music videos, and campaigns, his practice is shaped by the experience of growing up in Athens between cultures, developing an insider-outsider relationship to Greek identity that continues to inform his perspective. A self-taught filmmaker, he approaches his subjects with a tender and emotionally attentive gaze, often returning to themes of love, loss, grief, heritage, and trauma. ¶
His short film Atlantic (2025) premiered at the Drama International Short Film Festival, where it received the Special Jury Award and the “From Drama to Clermont-Ferrand” distinction, leading to his participation in the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival development program. The film also won Best Film at the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People. ¶
His film A Hot Day (2025) premiered on NOWNESS, while his earlier dance short Thorn (2022) screened at PÖFF Shorts and the Aesthetica Short Film Festival. His upcoming short film Volta (2027), produced by Neda Film, is currently in development with the support of the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center. ¶
Alongside his film work, he has collaborated extensively with artists from the Greek music scene, including Good Job Nicky, Tamta, Sakis Rouvas, and Giorgos Mazonakis, as well as directing campaigns for Vodafone, Campari, and Visa. ¶
Alexander currently lives and works in Athens, GR. ¶
